Some of the most important work of teaching takes place before the first day of school. Each week, we'll be sharing fantastic tips to give you some great ideas for the school year ahead!
Back-to-school Tip #5: Break the ice with fun activities to help students get acquainted.
The start of a new school year brings excitement, anticipation and many challenges for both teachers and students, whether they’re newcomers or returning to familiar territory and routines. Doing a fun activity with your class to break the ice and help them get acquainted with each other will start the year in a positive direction!
One great activity to build self-esteem and also motivate reluctant writers is with poster sets! Young learners will have a blast tooting their own horns by filling in favorite animals, foods, colors, books, writing a self-portrait, and more.
Next Step: After your students decorate and personalize their own poster, hang these up around the room for everyone to see! This is just one way of letting kids know that this is their classroom and that they matter here.
