Children's lives are made of story. It makes sense that as soon as they learn to write, they want to write the stories of their own lives. The purpose of this literature-based mini-lesson is to help student writers know that every story starts with a character and a problem, or a job to do!
Type of Mini-Lesson: Literature-BasedThis lesson is designed around a passage from a published source that the students know from previous readings. During the lesson, the teacher asks students to read, listen, notice, or list certain features of the text.
