The poem features words from the Dolch list, a widely recognized list of sight words. Along with the companion activities, this poem presents an opportunity to introduce children to specific elements of language such as parts of speech, word families, and more! Includes a copy of the poem (Double Silly), two activities, plus teaching tips!

Grades K - 2

This poem was carefully composed to include a high percentage of Dolch sight words and a low percentage of non-Dolch words. The non-Dolch words enhance the poems, since many high-frequency words are function words, such as the, of, and to. These words take on meaning only by acting as connectors for other words (Richek, Caldwell, Jennings, and Lerner, 2002).
