What is E-mail? What are search engines? This is a basic unit on Internet use, with particular focus on E-mail and internet search engines!
Students fill out a form to become familiar with the different parts of an email (from, to, CC, BCC, subject, body). They also complete a Venn Diagram to compare E-mail to traditional U.S. Mail. Students also explore the reasons to use a search engine, consider methods for determining reliable vs. unreliable websites, and conduct an Internet scavenger hunt!
When students are posting information or communicating via the Internet, remind them to avoid providing personal information. Privacy settings are available. You should check your school policies before allowing students to freely use wikis, blogs, social networking, or other forms of communication. In addition, your school may have an official Internet-related permisson form for you to use. Be sure to have parents review the permission request and indicate which activities they agree to have their child participate in.
