During Reading• During the first reading, simply read the story text aloud while allowing students to look at the illustrations. Give them time to become engaged in the story and language.• During subsequent readings, invite students to participate by reading the information in the sidebars. Encourage students to respond to any questions and try out the miniactivities suggested.• Encourage students to be active readers and listeners by asking their own questions as well. Stop to clarify any points in the story text or sidebars as needed!
