Research shows that “supporting literacy and language skills in the first language provides a base for successful literacy development in the second language” (Snow, Burns, & Griffin, 1998, as cited by Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, 2005). One way to implement that strategy while teaching with these packets is to give English Language Learners opportunities to teach others how to say the names for numbers in their first language.
