Students observe a portrait from a historical time period, draw it, and then add something contemporary to the portrait. This is a fun and colorful project for students, who will enjoy adding humor to their work!
This project is best as individual work. The objectives are to develop an organized essay in five paragraphs; to research material and paraphrase information; and to investigate how art reflects different cultures, times, and places!

Young Historian—Among the famous women and men you have studied, how many of them have online portraits that you can study? What do portraits tell you about these people that facts do not?
