Teaching Tip:
Elaborations as a new paragraph?Students often ask if the elaboration should be a new paragraph or part of the paragraph that contains the topic sentence and extension. The short answer is: either way is correct. If the elaboration is going to be a long one, then make it a separate paragraph. If the elaboration is three or four sentences, it does not need to be a separate paragraph. The good news: this is not an issue that will help or hurt a score on a state writing assessment!
