Word problems often intimidate students for several reasons. There may be a lot of information; the important facts are embedded in text; and, unlike a regular equation, it is not always clear to students exactly what they are supposed to do. No matter what type of problem students encounter, the Fantastic Five-Step Process will help them through it. Learning and using the five steps will help students organize their thinking—the key to effective problem solving!
