To complete this 8-page mini-book, students pair text boxes to illustrations and then sequence the pages. Sequencing helps to develop key skills such as critical thinking, assessing story events, predicting, logic, and reading comprehension! The story is about a field trip to the fire station—perfect for Fire Prevention Week in October!
Put students at the other end of the sequencing cycle. Ask them to write their own sequence of steps for common activities such as washing hands, making a bed, feeding a pet, or making a sandwich. Have them write each step on a separate index card and then number the back of the cards in sequential order. Later, pair up students and have the partners sequence each other’s set of cards.
